This past week the Stevenson Titans football program and the Titan Touchdown Club were happy to celebrate and honor our military service men and women. If you made it out to the game you had the opportunity to witness a great American who represented our team as the honorary Captain. The Titan Touchdown Club would like to extend our appreciation to Alex Brown, the Titans honorary Captain.
Mr. Brown served in World War II as part of the 8th Air Force and the 489th Heavy Bomber group in the United States Air Force. We were so excited to have such a great man, and American, serve as our honorary Captain during Military Night at Runkel Field.
In 1944, Mr. Brown was deployed overseas to Halesworth, England where they flew a total of 106 operational missions in the B-24 Liberators. He worked beside the rest of his crew as a Radio Operator and a Gunner, flying one mission himself over mainland England.
Mr. Brown was honorably discharged in 1946 having earned the America Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Brown, we appreciate you taking the time to be the Stevenson Titan’s honorary Captain and we thank you for your service!
The week leading up to the game, each football player involved in Stevenson football took the time to participate in Operation Gratitude. Players from the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity teams expressed their gratitude to our military heroes by writing letters of appreciation. These letters are included in care packages, which are sent to troops, veterans, new recruits, wounded heroes and their caregivers or first responders. These letters sent are oftentimes the most favorite item included in the care package.
Check out Operation Gratitude at: www.operationgratitude.com and see all the great ways you, and your family, can show appreciation to our military heroes during the Stevenson Titans football Military Theme week.
The Titan Touchdown Club and the Stevenson Titan football players extend our appreciation and love to the men and women of our military who are willing to sacrifice all to ensure our safety and freedoms!
